Microsoft Office 365 Exchange External Sender Tag
Tired of not being able to read the preview of emails, because there is a big banner in the way?
Microsoft has given the capability to no longer use banners and now use a sleeker method of notifying users that the email message has originated outside of the organization. This new method allows a much cleaner experience for the end-user and allows the preview of the message to be read in the push notification.

What is the purpose?
The banners are designed to alert users that the message has entered from outside of the organization, which should signal to the end-user that they need to have a heightened security posture. Overall this seems like a good idea, however the message banner blocking the preview of the message can be quite annoying.
How to Enable the Sleeker Tag Feature
By default, this feature is disabled. First open up PowerShell and use the module
Connect-ExchangeOnline If you need to install the module, look at the Microsoft Install Guide.
Import-Module ExchangeOnlineManagementThen,
Connect-ExchangeOnline -UserPrincipalName <UPN>Microsoft PowerShell Exchange Connect Guide
Once connected, enter
Set-ExternalInOutlook -AllowList "yourdomainhere.com", "microsoft.com" -Enabled $TrueIf you ever need to add another domain, such a third party service and or subdomain use the command
Set-ExternalInOutlook -AllowList @{Add="newdomain.com"}This feature can take up to 24 hours to fully implement on external messages. Here is an example how of the message should now present. The second highlight features the 'First Contact Safety Tip' which can be enabled or disabled in the 'Policies & Rules > Threat Policies> Anti-phishing' in the Defender Portal.
